Struggling with Family Court, Legal Forms or What to Do Next?
You’re not alone — many people feel overwhelmed when facing divorce, sorting out child arrangements or their financial negotiations. Legal jargon, endless paperwork, complicated forms and unclear advice make it even harder to move forward. Trying to work out what you should do next, or just what you may be entitled to, can feel impossible without spending thousands on legal costs.

In this short video, our co-founder Jess Knauf explains how our divorce experts offer fixed-fee legal help, give you clear guidance, smart tools, and support at every step — without the high costs of law firms, or the confusion of going it alone.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Q: Are you regulated – and why are your fees lower than a solicitor’s?
Here’s how we keep our prices low, without cutting corners:
-
We operate fully online, which keeps our overheads down.
-
Our paperwork is handled by a trusted team of experienced family law experts.
-
We offer fixed-fee services — no surprises, no hourly rates.
Regulation depends on the service:
-
Solicitor legal advice packages are regulated by the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA).
-
McKenzie Friend support and form completion are unregulated, but always delivered by trained, vetted professionals.
-
Family Mediation via our partners is regulated by the Family Mediation Council (FMC).
We clearly label whether each service is regulated or unregulated before you buy — so you always know exactly what you’re getting.
All our prices include VAT and any extra fees, like court costs.
Q: Should we split everything 50/50 in a divorce?
Not always — but 50/50 is often the starting point, especially after a long marriage.
Financial agreements are based on fairness, not just equality. That means:
-
What each of you needs moving forward
-
Your income, housing and childcare needs
-
How long you were married or cohabiting before marriage
-
Any disabilities or earning imbalances
If you both agree on your financial arrangements, we can draft a legally binding consent order to finalise things.
If you don’t agree, we can:
-
Refer you to family mediation
-
Help you apply to court for a financial order
-
Use our AI Barrister Review to show how your situation compares to real case law and the Matrimonial Causes Act 1973
Short answer: If a 50/50 split works for both of you, great — but if it doesn’t meet future needs, the law allows for full flexibility.
Q: Who gets custody of the children during a separation or divorce?
In the UK, there’s no such thing as “custody” anymore — it’s now called child arrangements. These focus on what’s best for your children, not who “wins” by having them.
The law puts your child’s needs first
Courts aim for children to have a meaningful relationship with both parents, where it’s safe and appropriate.
You can:
-
Make your own parenting agreement (this free parenting plan can help with that)
-
Get help from us to apply for a child arrangements order if you really cannot agree
-
Use family mediation to agree parenting plans (with a £500 Government funded voucher)
-
Get support from a McKenzie Friend if your case goes to court (and prepare for the CAFCASS interview)
We can help you build a positive, realistic plan that works for your family — without a lengthy and destructive battle.
